- The importance of color in our daily lives
cannot be overstated. Color, with its unique ability
to engage the eye is a catalyst for emotion,
creating magic and atmosphere. Color can relax you,
make you feel contemplative, or excite, inciting
feelings of energy and joy.
- Take some time to notice how you feel when you
look at certain colors or how you may feel relaxed
in a particular room and not even be aware why.
Notice the color around you. Then, see if you
feel that way again the next time you are in that
color environment.
-
- Some people spend their entire lives studying
the effects of color on the human brain. Have you
ever noticed the color scheme in fast food
restaurants? They are yellow, orange and red.
Think about it for a minute. do you know why
they use those colors? Well, scientists have
determined those colors make you feel hungry.
Yes, they are purposely encouraging you to purchase
and eat more with color!

- Pantone's Color
of 2010 is Turquoise:
- Long associated with
the talismanic jewelry of the American Southwest and
tropical Caribbean waters, turquoise suggests journeys
both spiritual and physical. In a year when we'd all
like to escape, even if only a fantasy, PANTONE
15-5519 Turquoise was a natural choice for our
Color of the Year 2010.
Turquoise has extended its soothing yet invigorating
reach into quite unexpected places this year – from
footwear to house wares. Have you spotted
turquoise lately?
-
- Pantone sets the baseline from which all
manufactures select colors. You will hear people refer
to pantone blue or something along those lines.
Paint manufactures use Pantone colors to create their
own shades and hues which they give a different name to.
But, it all starts with Pantone. They also give the
color forecast to the clothing, textile, house wares and
printed media nearly two years in advance.
- When it comes to Interior Decorating, the colors of
the current year start out with the high-end designers
then the following year they make their way into middle
designs. In year three they hit mass market.
Therefore, knowing the colors ahead of time will help
with Interior decorating. You will have current
trends for at least four years armed with this
information.

AFRICAN RHYTHMS
-
Leatrice Eiseman,
Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute says,
Africa continues to exert a major influence on color for
2010. With South Africa's selection as host nation for
the 2010 FIFA World Cup and Nelson Mandela's enduring
global appeal, African design is ready for the
international stage. Filmmakers are increasingly
choosing Africa as the location for movies, and
holidaymakers are hard pressed to find anything even
close to the magnificence of their National parks. And,
not only did last fall's New York Fashion Week showcase
African designs alongside the likes of Ralph Lauren and
Louis Vuitton, but these fashion greats themselves drew
on the continent for inspiration for their own
collections
